The jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy Wilson was first child of six. Nancy's father was an avid musician and would play records in the family. This was a major influence upon her growing up. By the age of four, she knew she would like to become an accomplished musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. When she was 15, she won a talent show on TV and was able to regularly appear on the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. She began working in night clubs around the same age. Nancy was just 17 at the time she completed high school. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - now Central State University - for one term, Nancy quit to become a professional performer. In 1956 she released her first album with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy made her debut record in the band's studio with Dot Records while in the band. Cannonball adderley encouraged her to travel into New York in order to increase her fame. She went to The Big Town, New York in 1959. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. Within a month of her arrival at New York City. He signed a contract signing her with Capitol Records in the year 1960. she made her debut that year with the single. Guess whom I saw this morning. Her records were successful and Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. The first was focused on R&B, but under Adderley's influence, she embraced jazz.
