Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had worked for a long time as a housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest of six kids. Her father was a fan of music and loved to play records at home. It had a huge influence on her as a child. As a young girl she was already able to establish a strong sense of who she was as well as the things she wanted to be. The church choir helped develop her talent. She was a finalist on a talent show on TV in her 15th year and then began appearing regularly on the Tv program Skyline Melodies while still in high school. At the age of 15, Nancy began her journey in night clubs. Nancy completed high school aged 17 and enrolled in Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. She then dropped out to pursue a profession as a professional musician. She recorded her first record in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. The group was on tour from 1956 until 1958. While in the group Nancy recorded her first album with Dot Records. Cannonball addederley recommended that she relocate in New York for her career and, in 1959, she relocated in The Big Town. The agent of Adderley heard about her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. within a month of her arrival in New York City. He signed a contract with Capitol records in 1960, and she debuted the following year by releasing the single. Guess who I saw today. Her records were successful and Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Adderley influenced her to move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to bring her to the forefront and her hit Tell Me the Truth was made available in the year 1963. Her first job was at the New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's top nightclub.
